In order to revitalize the community, Whittier's Redevelopment Agency has numerous projects underway, including a $7 million dollar project near historic Hoover Hotel. The agency is also working on developing a 480-acre (1.9 km2) project area near Whittier Blvd.

The Whittwood Town Center, a popular mall, includes stores such as JC Penney, Target, Sears, and Vons. With the revival of its Uptown district, the city waits to attract more well known businesses, as well as open new residential town homes.
